Position Overview:
The Health Information Specialist is responsible for ensuring all medical record information is protected, complete, and accurate. The Health Information Manager also is responsible for monitoring appointment schedule and maintaining record of internal and external medical appointments for participants.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assure all medical record information is protected and kept confidential.
- Protect all medical record information from loss, defacing, or destruction.
- Retrieve, scan, import and file, medical records.
- Monitor for record completion. Ensure that incomplete records are identified and communicated to appropriate party.
- Assure that laboratory and x-ray reports are received and filed/scanned for all tests completed.
- Audit records for completion and compliance every four months.
- Update Electronic Medical Records (EHR) with any changes in participant demographic resident information.
- Notify Operations Director of all requests for medical records pertaining to continuation of care outside of Bluestem PACE.
- Assist with quality improvement activities.
- Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Monitor Orders Tracking for outside orders that need special attention and additional documentation and communication.
- Coordinate documentation and orders for Respite situations from admission to discharge.
- Monitor reoccurring appointment orders, authorization and record requests.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office
- Prior Medical Records experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Light Work Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
