Job Description:
As a Senior Accountant with a focus on job costing, you will be responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and job cost accounting processes. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of job cost tracking, project cost analysis, and providing financial insights to support strategic business decisions. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of general accounting principles, job costing methodologies, and the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process invoices, ensure timely payments, and manage accounts receivable, ensuring all payments are collected and applied appropriately.
Bank Reconciliations:
- Perform daily bank reconciliations to ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
Month-End Close & Reporting:
- Keep the Rolling Forecast up to date.
- Calculate and maintain commission schedules.
- Month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations and schedules of job cost accounts and all balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and review financial statements with a focus on job costing and project profitability.
- Computation, reconciliation and provision of Sales Tax.
- Ensure all financial data is accurately reported in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Weekly reports to management.
Job Costing & Financial Analysis:
- Manage and maintain the job cost accounting system, ensuring all costs are accurately recorded and allocated to the correct projects.
- Analyze project costs, track variances, and prepare detailed job cost reports for management review.
- Monitor project budgets, analyze discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions to project managers and leadership.
- Review vendor invoices and purchase orders related to specific projects.
Collaboration with Project Management:
- Work closely with project managers to ensure job costs are aligned with project timelines and budgets.
- Assist in forecasting future costs and ensuring job profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide insights and analysis to support decision-making for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Process Improvement:
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place to safeguard financial data and prevent errors or fraud.
- Continuously evaluate accounting processes for efficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on job costing or project accounting.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, job costing methodologies, and financial analysis.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
