What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Order Fulfillment (Student) position at Bob Jones University?
SUMMARY: The Order Fulfillment Student is responsible for quickly and accurately picking, packing and loading BJU Press orders for shipment.
Full Time: Beginning summer 2025
HOURS REQUIRED: Please note dates and hours for this job. Exceptions may be allowed on a person-to-person basis, dependent upon the need. Employment begins on the Monday (May 12th) following graduation, with all employees working 8:00am-5:00pm (Monday-Friday), until training has been completed. After 1-3 weeks the hours of operation will be adjusted, and there will be an expansion to two shifts for the remainder of the summer. Shift-work options will be discussed during the interview process; however, all new hires should be prepared to work on a 2nd shift as needed. Overtime hours will most likely be available (and requested) during peak shipping weeks, especially during the month of June. Overtime hours would include working some Saturdays throughout the summer. It is imperative that any employee hired is able to work the entire month of June! Summer employment ends August 22nd.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promptly opens, picks and completes all orders in their queue/assigned area
- Packs items into boxes according to box plan and packing procedures
- Prepares boxes for shipping with packing materials and appropriate paperwork
- Organizes, counts and wraps pallet shipments for pickup
- Informs Line Coordinator of any packing issues or item/location problems
- Keeps assigned area stocked, neat, clean and safe
- Assists Line Coordinator and Shipping Supervisor with other tasks as directed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be 18 years old (OSHA requirement)
- Must be enrolled and returning as a student at Bob Jones University
- Self-motivated, self-disciplined, flexible, and works with a sense of urgency
- Ability to remain focused on a task for extended time (no talking/texting on cell phones)
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time (up to 2 hrs)
- Good agility and hand-eye coordination
- Good math and computer skills (RF experience a plus, but not required)
- Willingness to take on/learn other tasks during slower periods
- Ability to work well with others
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- College-age and up (graduating high school students considered if 18)
- Prior warehouse/fulfillment experience preferred, but not required
- Comfortable using hand-held electronic devices
