Bodhi Farms is a sustainable boutique eco resort destination just outside of Bozeman. In fact we are the only resort in Bozeman. We are currently looking for a seasonal Garden Manager to join our team. Applicants should have a solid foundation in organic gardening, permaculture practices and a passion for the environment. This is a seasonal position that starts in April and runs through October.

Essential Job Functions. As Garden Manager you will be the lead role responsible for the day to day operations of the production gardens. This includes not only its presentation and production, but also being present for volunteers and guests as they help in and tour the facilities

The Garden Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties;

Production Gardens & Hoop House. Ensuring that the gardens are well managed, productive, and in showcase condition.

• Seeding & Planting. Oversee all planting / sowing in our indoor starting room.
• Growing & Maintaining. Ensure that the gardens are well maintained, including pest management, watering and covering as needed for bountiful production.
• Irrigation. Adhere to the irrigation schedule in the production gardens. Responsible for setup, take down, expansion and maintenance of the production gardens irrigation system.
• Weed Management. Keeping the gardens in showcase conditions through weed removal.
• Harvesting. Ensuring harvest schedules for peak production. Ensure harvesting, cleaning and packaging are executed per farm policies.
• Soil Management. Ensuring production garden soil building using regenerative agricultural practices.
• Volunteer Management. Manage Garden Volunteer weekly schedule and provide daily leadership in volunteer garden tasks under the direction of the Farm Manager

Sales. While most of the produce goes to the restaurant, it is a goal of this season to generate garden sales via market garden operations, running a weekly farm stand and identifying key vendors to deliver our produce to.

• Farm Stand. Run it every Thursday.
• Market Garden. Select one more cash crop besides our garlic and help develop sales channels.

Farm Support. Being a part of the team and jumping in to help with various projects when needed.

• Farm Animals. Help with farm animal chores, including all feeding, watering, cleanliness of all spaces.
• Permaculture Landscaping. Planting, growing and maintaining permaculture food forests and edible landscaping perennials throughout the farm.
• Cleanliness & Organization. Maintain clean workspaces including all garden workspaces, all workshop and storage areas so that they are always presentable.
• Support Sustainable Waste Program. Support the operations of a best in class sustainable waste management program that can be a beacon for education.
• Resort Activities. Be available to host classes showcasing your passions.
• Farm Volunteers. Ensuring a great experience for all volunteers.

Skills Required

• Highly experienced organic gardener
• Knowledge of permaculture practices
• Take personal accountability in getting the job done.

Physical Requirements. We are an outdoor business and this has its physical requirements. If you’re looking for a desk job, you’re in the wrong place.

• Withstand temperatures of 0 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Moving constantly for extended periods of time (up to 10-12 hours a day).
• Lifting and carrying items weighing in excess of 65 lbs. for distances of up to 25 ft. (Hay Bales, Feed Bags, Logs, Implements, etc.)
• Physically be able to bend, dig and lift regularly. Use shovels, hoes and other manual tools.
• Occasionally operate machinery such as: Tractor, Lawn Mower and Weed Eater.

Qualifications

• Experience in agriculture, agronomy, animal science, or sustainable operations.
• 2 years of farm operations experience, preferably in organic or permaculture.

• The schedule for this position is Wednesday-Sunday, with opportunity to work Mondays and Tuesdays as requested.
• This is a seasonal 6 month position that runs from April 1st-October 1st.
