JOB DESCRIPTION:
Duties
- Work rejects/denials, send corrected claims, appeals
- Electronic claims building and submission
- Stay up to date on CPT, ICD, and LCD guidelines
- Chart and coding review
- Check eligibility and benefits
- Obtain prior authorizations
- Call patients when necessary to verify insurance information
- Provide excellent customer service to patients paying their bill or inquiring about their account
- Work to reduce backlog of unpaid claims in legacy systems
- Read and analyze EOBs and ERAs
- Payment posting
- Maintains HIPAA patient confidentiality standards for medical and financial information
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD, and LCD guidelines
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Competency with Microsoft Office and G Suite
- Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
- Adapt well to changes in processes and procedures
- Understanding of insurance plans and basic accounting
- Knowledge and understanding of the medical claims billing cycle and HCFA1500 forms, HCPCs, Modifiers
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Positive attitude, able to work well with a team as well as independently
- Strong knowledge of Government Programs – ex: Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, VA
- Strong knowledge of commercial policies
- Excellent customer service skills and phone manner
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Scheduler schedules all surgical procedures and assures that all of the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule. Scheduler receives requests to schedule procedures from physician offices and schedules the procedure according to established guidelines.
- Perform a variety of orthopedic related activities
- Assist physician in back office duties
- Perform basic triage office protocol procedures.
- Update and file medical records and insurance reports
- Arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain work area, exam rooms, supplies, medications and immunizations.
- Perform associated clerical/admin tasks including scheduling, filing, follow-up calls, etc.
- Monitors inventory of medical and/or office supplies and equipment, ensuring units and/or rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and not expired
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
SKILLS: Proven working experience as a medical assistant Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task efficiently and take direction from multiple sources Social perceptiveness and service-oriented Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software
QUALIFICATIONS: MUST have 1 year of experience as a Surgery Scheduler. MUST have experience working in healthcare setting Bilingual (Fluent in English and Spanish) preferred Must have reliable transportation for traveling if necessary
