What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jail Navigator position at Bootheel Behavioral Health?
Qualifications:
- Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution in the field of psychology, counseling, social work or related field, or meet the qualification of a community support professional with at least 3 years of population specific experience; or with behavioral health crisis experience.
- Or master’s degree from an accredited educational institution in the field of psychology, counseling, social work or related field and licensure preferred, provisional or eligibility for license preferred.
- Knowledge or experience working in the criminal justice system is preferred.
- Possess strong organizational skills and skills in communication and care coordination of individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use issues.
- Ability to travel to and work in jail settings directly with inmates and with jail staff within Bootheel Behavioral Health service area.
The Jail Navigator will perform a variety of interactive support, guidance, assistance and liaison functions to assist program participants while in the county jail and upon reintegration into the community.
Duties include identifying and enrolling participants into the program; working with participants one-on-one to provide screening, support counseling, and coordination of services; collaborating with Jail staff and community service organizations regarding the needs/progress of participants; providing case management and follow-up functions upon participant re-entry to the community. Duties also include providing participants with resources, referral services, and assistance in scheduling appointments and accompaniment to community provider appointments, if needed.
