Summary
Plans, administers and supervises human resources activities under the general supervision of the Plant Manager. Primary areas of responsibility include recruiting, supervision, employee relations and supporting safety. Plays an important role in being part of the Plant Management team and supports Operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment and hiring of production employees and supporting positions.
Recruits, interviews, and recommends candidates for salaried positions.
Conducts new hire orientations.
Objectively applies all company policies, programs, rules, and regulations in support of achieving plant goals for safety, quality, and productivity
Provides direction for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures
Promotes positive employee relations by advising and making decisions that are fair, consistent, and compliant.
Addresses employee complaints
Administers disciplinary actions as necessary and advised operations on discipline.
Responds as needed to outside agencies or attorneys regarding employment matters
Responds to unemployment claims and represents the company at related hearings.
Utilites HRIS to compute and report HR metrics, and provides other management reports as needed (headcount, KPI, etc.)
Coordinates annual salary planning process for location.
Provides quantitative information to Plant Controller for budgeting/forecasting labor expenses.
Monitor and follow-up on training and development via Training Log and Training Matrices.
Manage new hourly employee benefit enrollments.
Manage the process for STD and FMLA leave and Workers Compensation claims.
Directly supervises HR Coordinator and Payroll function.
Oversee plant social activities, meetings and conferences.
Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Human Resources Management or related field from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of seven years of experience in a manufacturing human resources management role; minimum of five years of experience in a unionized setting.
Proficient in all Federal and State employment and local Worker’s Compensation laws.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Previous supervisory experience required.
Human Resources Certification preferred (PHR / SHRM).
Language Ability
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers (internal and external), and the general public.
Math Ability
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, and statistical inference.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and implement permanent corrective actions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet, E-mail, HRIS software
