Description

Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Department is seeking to hire a Motor Vehicle Coordinator. The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder’s Office provides Motor Vehicle, Recording, and Election services for Boulder County residents. The mission of the Motor Vehicle Coordinator is to deliver excellence in public service through innovation, developing resiliency, and by adhering to legislative requirements while fostering a culture rooted in strong values of Service, Alignment, Accountability, Equity & Inclusion and Adaptability.

The Motor Vehicle division operates three branches: Boulder, Longmont, and Lafayette. This position will be responsible for overseeing a team of 46, with direct supervision of 3 Branch Managers, 1 Trainer, and 1 Systems Specialist.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to exceptional service and possess a proven track record of successfully building and leading teams through effective planning and execution of strategic goals. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to course correct as necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must to provide clear directives, foster staff engagement, listen actively, and empower both individuals and teams to succeed. Experience with data tracking and analysis to inform decision-making is required.

As a leadership position, this role is critical to the efficient management of Motor Vehicle operations and supporting the leaders and teams of all divisions. The primary goal is to ensure that staff have the necessary knowledge, resources, and skills to deliver high-quality public service. Responsibilities include strategic planning, ensuring compliance with legislative and Motor Vehicle requirements, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and problem-solving.

This position plays a key role in driving operational efficiency, leading initiatives focused on service excellence, and proactively addressing challenges. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, reduces barriers to accessing and understanding Motor Vehicle services, and supports a culture of development, efficiency, and accountability.

This is a full-time, benefited position. This position will work Monday - Thursday from 7am - 5:30pm. This position will be located at 1750 33rd Street in Boulder, CO. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) this position is exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $87,948.00 - $105.000.00 Annually

  • Compliance:
  • Required to research, understand, and meet statute/ legislative compliance and county/office policies.
  • Ensure confidentiality of public member’s PII information.
  • Comply with all cyber security requirements, trainings, and procedures.
  • Create, align, and move 3-year goals forward.
  • Collaborate with DOR to modernize their practices, enhance public service, and increase efficiency in processes.
  • Collaborate with Elected Official (EO) to ensure legislative plans meet the needs of the public and our office.
  • Manage the Motor Vehicle (MV) Team
  • Ensure a team of 45 staff and MV greeters have the skills, resources, and knowledge to execute on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop MV leaders to ensure their staff have the skills and resources needed to innovate, problem solve, collaborate, and execute their duties ensuring the expectations and vision of the division and office.
  • Staff Development
  • Lead by example; living the core values of the Clerk and Recorder Office (Service, Equity & Inclusion, Accountability, Alignment and Adaptability).
  • Accountable for the direct supervision of 3 MV Managers, Trainer and Systems Specialist ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and resources to provide excellent service.
  • Demonstrate proactive communication; provide the information to understand their value in the division, office, and their role.
  • Project Management and Operations
  • Direct the planning, implementation, and staff’s accountability for results in key processes, including and not limited to proper execution, analysis of data and effectiveness of processes and meeting deadlines.
  • Utilize project management skills and tools to coordinate completion of all projects.
  • Incorporates systemic thinking to help identify and lead change that supports continuous improvement.
  • Work with various DRIVES (Motor Vehicle system) committees to influence the advancement of operational efficiency, drive initiatives for service excellence, and maintain a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Utilize technology for project planning, tracking and implementation.
  • Leads RFPs, software evaluations and implementations of technology solutions to meet MV division needs

Education & Experience

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of four years of experience in a management position or Motor Vehicle leadership experience.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public administration, management or related field

Extensive knowledge and experience in the operations of a county Motor Vehicle Office

4 years combined education and experience effectively utilizing multiple systems and business analysis methodologies, tools, and practices.

2 years supervision and managing teams, including planning, resourcing, and scheduling.

Advanced understand of MS Office suite. Intermediate MS Excel (complex formulas, macros, import/export, table design and build, relational queries, and reporting)
