What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Grounds Technician position at Boulder County?
Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire 2 (two) Seasonal Grounds Technicians. The main job function will include routine trailhead mowing, regional trail mowing, trimming, and general maintenance of our park trailheads. In addition, they may have the opportunity to perform a variety of work duties relating to other Grounds projects managed by our team. Seasonal Grounds Technicians will work primarily in outdoor locations and regularly use available resources such as hand and power tools for necessary jobs.
These are hourly, non-benefited positions that will work 40 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm. These positions will work out of 5201 St. Vrain Rd Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, these positions are non-exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $24.04 Hourly
Tentative Hiring Timeline:
- First Round Interviews: April 22nd
- Second Round Interviews: April 23rd

- Perform routine mowing, trimming, and maintenance on park trails and trailheads
- Regular equipment and tool inspections, maintenance, and preventative care
- Operate pickup trucks, trailers, mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, various hand tools, and other power equipment
- Assist with various grounds projects including construction, trail head maintenance, fence repair, dirt work, grading, and light carpentry
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Work independently and in a team environment
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned during emergency situations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Maintenance of parks, open space and/or natural resources
o Operating light equipment and tools such as pick-up trucks, mowers, chippers, skid-steers
o Light maintenance and repair of fences or structures, parking lot grading, or general construction - Ability to perform manual labor jobs, such as regular heavy lifting and operation of hand and power tools
- Understanding safety measures and taking precautionary actions while in the field
- Ability to operate trucks and other equipment related to the job
- Knowledge of repairing and maintaining tools
- Strong commitment to cultural responsiveness and inclusion
- Proficiency when working independently on the job with little supervision
