Title: Chief Nursing Officer-CNO

Reporting Relationship: Chief Executive Officer - CEO 

 

General Summary of Responsibilities:    Provides clinical and administrative leadership and direction to the nursing division and other assigned departments.
Facilitates development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of services within the assigned areas through collaboration with the nursing leaders, clinical/medical staff and other managers. Assures achievement of goals and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards set forth by state, federal, and hospital regulatory agencies. Creates an environment of innovation and creativity. Accountable for establishing operational mechanisms and nurse leadership structures which facilitate quality patient care.

1. Demonstrates knowledge of corporate compliance laws and regulations (e.g. HIPAA, billing and coding practices, antitrust, conflict of interest, etc.)
2. Demonstrates an understanding of global healthcare issues, trends and perspectives (e.g. aging population, insurance costs, malpractice crisis, healthcare workforce shortages, etc.)
3. Demonstrates an understanding of regulatory and administrative environment in which the organization functions (e.g. Stark laws, accreditation, etc.)

Professional Expectations
1. Maintains a dotted line reporting relationship with all Registered Nurses in the organization to ensure current competence in nursing practice
2. Collaborates with other executives in the organization in making decisions about health care services, settings, and organizational priorities
3. Serves as the chief spokesperson for organized nursing services, is the catalyst for integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in mutual achievement of patient focused and organizational goals 

4. Identifies and implements standards for nursing practice consistent with research based standards of professional organizations, statutes, and regulations
5. Participates in the design and development of systems compatible with the ANA Code of Ethics, research-based nursing standards, the goals and resources of the organization, and client/family expectations
6. Evaluates and improves services provided through quality improvement programs that include utilization of nursing research activities
7. Responsible for the development of nursing leaders within the division
8. Establishes nursing policies and procedures, nursing standards, and nurse staffing plans
9. Establishes relationships with area educational programs and works collaboratively to promote the nursing profession and support future recruitment needs
10. Serves as an advocate for continuing education, staff development, and organizational development

Expected work hours up to - Other - 13

 Education and Experience :                

Required: Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN), five years of recent acute care experience (including emergency care, intensive care, medical-surgical care, and OB).

Conditional: Completion of a Master’s in Nursing or related field within five years of hire.

Preferred: Two years of nursing management experience.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Required: Nebraska Registered Nurse License, Basic Life Support (BLS), valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred: National Nursing Administration Certification.
