General Summary of Responsibilities:
As a Teacher Assistant, you'll play a vital role in creating a nurturing and safe environment for our children. You will support our Teachers and Director by assisting in activities that enhance the overall care and quality of education. Strong communication, teamwork, and a genuine love for working with children are essential in this position. You’ll observe and document children's interests and progress, fostering positive relationships with both the children and their parents.
Essential Functions:
- Curriculum Implementation: Assist in executing curriculum activities while encouraging active participation from children.
- Engagement: Actively engage in activities, ensuring classroom materials are clean, well-maintained, and readily available.
- Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
- Self-Help Encouragement: Promote self-help skills and good hygiene through positive behavior modeling.
- Daily Transitions: Facilitate smooth transitions for children from home to the childcare center.
- Policy Compliance: Adhere to all center policies and state regulations.
- Professional Development: Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure ongoing quality improvement.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in team meetings and program assessments to enhance program quality.
- Work Ethic: Demonstrate a positive work ethic through reliable attendance, punctuality, and productivity.
- Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a good moral character.
- Required: High School diploma or GED.
- Conditional: Within 6 months of hire, meet one of the following:
- A. 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children (reference from a former employer required).
- B. Submit a written plan for departmental approval to obtain at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, or child/youth development within six months.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Certifications, and Experience Required:
- High energy and enthusiasm for working with children.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency.
- Understanding of child development principles.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Safety Training per Nebraska DHHS within the first year of employment.
- Completion of Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines Training within five years of employment.
- Successful completion of a full background check and health screening.
- Post-offer/pre-employment background check and drug screening required.
