This position is designed for a creative, energetic individual who is interested in catalyzing participation of various stakeholders in Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. The Community Engagement Coordinator performs responsible work in providing strategies, planning, facilitation, and development services for the organization and implementing a long-term community engagement plan. This position facilitates and builds public awareness through assisting with resource development, event management, and community outreach activities. The position will work closely with the entire Resource Development Department, especially the Director of Community Outreach to nurture relationships across various platforms while building and supporting a strong alumni and volunteer base. This position works closely with the Resource Development Team to plan and execute resource development, events, community outreach, and Club communications and partnerships.
Major Responsibilities
- Supports the development and implementation of marketing, public relations, and resource development strategies designed to build appreciation and support of the Agency’s initiatives, events, volunteer recruitment, and Club programs and activities.
- Serves as the Special-event coordinator for all annual organization-wide events, smaller quarterly events, and volunteer-supported Club events. This includes working with volunteer committees to generate revenue while spreading brand awareness. This also includes incorporating techniques in garnering event attendees and engaging them in other areas of the organization post-event.
- Encourages and supports committees and Club Resource Councils in planning and implementing special events or initiatives.
- Develops and implements a volunteer program, complete with volunteer training, for organization-wide opportunities and within individual Club facilities.
- Develops and implements an Alumni Association complete with discovering, tracking, and communicating with these populations – as well as providing association benefits for members.
- Continuously develops knowledge of best practices to build awareness and market Agency’s initiatives, programs, services, and activities.
- Coordinates communication strategies for audiences such as volunteers, alumni, and CRCs with tailored messaging for each.
- Uses training, one-on-one and small group meetings and other techniques to facilitate engagement of various groups.
- Coordinates volunteers and alumni for high priority projects.
- Assists in development of collaborative partnerships with Agency staff, volunteers, Club members, parents, donors, other Boys & Girls Clubs, media, consultants, vendors, and other not-for-profit organizations to establish professional links with the community.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Relationships:
Internal: Maintains close contact with program staff (professional and volunteer), members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with stakeholders, alumni, volunteers, youth serving professionals, other Boys & Girls Clubs, organizations and partners to achieve program goals and objectives.

Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Hospitality, Education, or related discipline preferred. High level, comparable work experience may also be considered in lieu of a degree.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in community engagement/outreach, volunteer management, and/or event management.
- Previous work experience in a not-for-profit agency related to partnership building, event planning, event marketing, community outreach, volunteer management, or related field preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with technology and the ability to learn new skills and systems.
- Work-style that is self-motivated, dynamic, reflective, self-aware, and adaptive and includes the ability to fulfill a variety of functions in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of:
- Professional communication strategies and verbiage across all platforms
- Building partnerships through volunteerism and associations.
- Special-event development, coordination, and execution.
- Fundraising techniques, fundraising sources, marketing and sales for not-for-profit organization.
- Record keeping, data gathering, report preparation, filing methods, and records management techniques.
Ability to:
- Organize and coordinate multiple fundraising operations simultaneously.
- Work with diverse audiences for the common goal and purpose of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana’s strategic direction.
- Provide direct support for various fundraising projects and campaigns.
- Train and teach effective engagement skills to volunteers, other staff, and members of the community.
- Deploy principles, practices and techniques related to effective engagement strategies, systems thinking, collaborative decision-making, and meeting facilitation that fosters chosen accountability and an asset-based approach.
- Nurture individuality and independent thinking among community volunteers and groups while simultaneously building consensus in working toward common goals that affect the future sustainability of the organization.
- Influence and motivate people to be involved and engaged.
