Professional Non-Exempt 12-month (260 days) Position, 30-40 hours/week. $22.00-$25.00 per hour depending on experience. $14,800 annual additional compensation. Benefits available.
SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Accounting Supervisor, performs professional level accounting and bookkeeping work involved with the maintenance of the district’s accounting and bookkeeping function. This includes generating monthly and annual financial statements, performing accounts receivable and payable functions, providing oversight in numerous fund accounting areas and conducting general financial research within the overall accounting framework. The person in this classification is required to work with technical data required by the Federal and State Government.
BOOKKEEPER RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
- Reviews and process all AP invoices (paid via the requisition/purchase order process) for proper approval, account coding and supporting documents.
- Reviews and processes all District credit card charge receipts and logs for completeness, accounting code accuracy and appropriateness.
- Maintains the vendor database for the District and requests and archives necessary W-9 forms for the District. Compiles and issues 1099-MISC forms annually.
- Makes all physical deposits flowing through the Business Office and has oversight over deposits posted elsewhere in the District. Books electronic deposited revenue for the District.
- Prepare and post adjusting, recurring and original accounting entries.
- Support the Accounting Supervisor as required to account for fixed assets in the district.
- Research stale dated warrants, created indemnity bonds and issue replacement warrants as necessary.
- Assist with internal auditing of District financial records, controls, and common practices. Perform financial research projects as needed.
- Orders, activates, troubleshoots and distributes all District-owned cell phones.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Accounting Supervisor and the Director of Business Services.

Knowledge of:
- Generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles regarding governmental accounting procedures is preferred, but not required.
- Use and function of automated data management.
- Current modern office practices and procedures in the collection and organization of data and information.

- Perform detailed accounting and balancing procedures in a calm, efficient manner under frequent interruptions and timelines.
- Supervise and direct the work of others.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and rapidly assimilate knowledge and abilities in the district’s operations mode, goals and objectives.
- Meet and work with a variety of individuals of various levels of influence in a professional, positive and cooperative manner.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Equivalent to completion of high school
- Knowledge and experience with Excel
- Equivalent to three years experience in an increasingly responsible clerical accounting position involving public contact
