JOB SUMMARY
Receives and interviews patients to collect and verify pertinent demographic, clinical and financial data. Obtains copies of relevant documents including physician orders and most recent insurance cards and where applicable verifies eligibility of insurance and obtains authorization for services, as necessary. Collects required payments or makes necessary financial arrangements as appropriate for assigned work area. Performs order entry for tests as appropriate for assigned work area. Prepares and distributes appropriate reports, documents, and Patient Identification items and provides patient education in accordance with Federal and State Regulations, Payer requirements and Bradley Medical Center (BMC) Policies and Procedures, BMC Privacy Notice, BMC General Consent, Patient Rights, etc. Assists in working reports and worklists to correct errors or identify and resolve missing information. Has a mastery of and routinely performs change patient scheduling status, change patient status cancel and resume and change patient status revise. Performs additional duties as assigned in a courteous and professional manner. Is considered a Superuser on relevant departmental processes and systems applications. Acts as a preceptor assisting Department Leadership in training and orientation of new hires, internal cross training, ongoing change management and performance improvement training. Assists Department Manager/Supervisor in routine management tasks, such as monthly schedule preparation, budget management (flex scheduling decisions). Also, assists in the interview process and hiring decisions and may be called upon to provide input to the Director on annual performance appraisals.
Lead Scheduler is trained and proficient in handling these responsibilities for One call scheduling which consists of buckets, phones, and any other patient interactions
The Lead Scheduler must be able to lead, train and supervise staff. Must be able to answer all system and process related questions from the staff, patients or HMC management. The Lead Scheduler must be part of the scheduling team and working alongside the team working buckets and answering calls.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of a high school diploma required. College level courses preferred.
Licensure: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.
Experience: Prior experience in same or similar position in a hospital or physician practice is preferred. Background in medical related field preferred.
Skills: Basic typing and calculator skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, Word, and Excel required. Basic medical terminology and knowledge of CPT4 and ICD9 coding preferred.
