Die Setter – 2ndShift – Auburn Hills, MI
SUMMARY
Die Setters are responsible for all areas of the die set – clamping, watering, cleaning area,
excessive grease from tie bars, and set up cycle per cycle sheet.
Essential Functions
- Include the following. Must be able to do full rotation. Other duties may be assigned
- Change molds in presses for production or sample requirements in a safe, neat, efficient
manner (including proper PPE when required)
- Must be able to change 6 molds part to part within 8-hour shift
- Prior to shutting a job down for mold change: When Die Setters approach the mold
change, they are to survey the area for any oil leaks, clean the area if need be and they
are to write up a work order for repair (if needed) before they begin the mold change
- Prior to pulling a mold, must be assured that the sled is moved back to avoid damage to
the tip
- Must not use the injection unit to push mold location ring from the plate
- Inspect all waterlines prior to use
- Replace any damage
- Locate mold and put on as many fittings and hoses as can be installed without
interfering with set up
- For Safety reasons always tighten bolts with proper wrench, never hand tighten
- Using 6-point impact when required when noted torque to proper setting
- Check the cycle sheet for any special instructions or auxiliary equipment or supplies
which may be required. Pick up parts around press
- Sweep entire area around press to avoid accidental slipping while changing the mold
- Set up work cell with secondaries per layout in book
- Clean and lube mold in press after it is set up
- At tip change must examine the nozzle base with a mirror and flashlight to assure it is
clean and free of damage or plastic
- Finger thread the tip fully into base, if unable, must hand tap to clean out
- When clean apply anti-seize to threads only and properly tighten
- Box under press as required
- Transfer mold taken out of the press to the designated area for storage or repair.
- Clean safety glass on the press
- Die Setters will clean all used nozzle tips with the wire wheel and will visually inspect for
surface fractures
- When tightening anything with pressure to be applied to a wrench/bar, Die Setter must
utilize the “open palm method”
- Maintain inventory of Die Setter supplies in good condition and complete a request for
more supplies through a request to the Production Efficiency Tech prior to running out
- Write up a requisition for any supplies or tools needed for mold set up
- Clean machines and auxiliary equipment
- Assist in minor production related cycle problems
- Assist in quality related cycle problems as authorized by and under the guidance of the
shift foreman
- When changing a mold, place one bolt in at a time and tighten it all the way before
moving on to the next bolt
- Operate the lift truck when required
- Maintain safe driving speeds and have an acute awareness of all surroundings, stop at
all cross isles
- Assist in training new Die Setter and/or back up Die Setter
- For safety reasons the minimum acceptable thread engagement is 1 ½ times the bolt
diameter
- Any less engagement indicates the bolt is too short and must be replaced with a long
bolt
- Use proper clamps for the tool being set
- Use proper washers for bolt and clamp being used.
- It is the responsibility of all employees to take corrective action for all nonconforming
items identified by the employee
- When using anything sharp, must use Kevlar gloves and Kevlar burn sleeves on both
hands and arms. Perform other duties as required for the safe, efficient operation of the
plant
- When setting or pulling tools machine must be set to mold set during any opening or
closing during mold set up
- This is to avoid extensive tool damage
- Supervisory Responsibilities- If this position becomes vacant, the Supervisor, or
appointed trained Tech or equivalent will resume responsibilities
- Environmental Responsibilities- May be required co functions as a member of
environmental response action team, fire brigade, and First Responder, with specialized
training as listed in the tracking system
- Provides OJT to personnel where appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS

following all safety rules
- Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
or six months to 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Hi Lo License, Rigging, and crane training required
