Duration : 6 Months contract to hire
Position Summary:
Learn/assist in performance of masonry duties including concrete finishing, block laying, plastering, building restoration and equipment use. Overtime will be required as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform setting forms, screed, installation of reinforcing materials, pouring and spreading concrete. - 20% of Time.
- Perform mixing, spreading mortar, positioning (block, brick, ceramic and/or quarry tile) removing excess mortar, sawing blocks, bricks, etc. to construct or repair for block laying jobs. - 20% of Time.
- Perform cleaning, leveling, scarifying surfaces for bonding of plaster, installation of metal lathe and screeds, mixing and application of plaster on walls/ceilings and proper match with existing surface. - 20% of Time.
- Perform building restoration projects, including tuck pointing, caulking and waterproofing. - 15% of Time.
- Perform operation of Skid Steer loader and jack hammers. - 10% of Time.
- Perform application of epoxy floors including shot blasting, grinding, cleaning floor to bond epoxy, mixing and application of epoxy liquid. - 5% of Time.
- Perform maintenance of assigned tools (i.e., hammers, chisels, levels, saws, drills, roto-hammers, hand and gas-powered trowels, vibrating screed, mortar/concrete mixers, diamond-point core-drilling machine, jack hammers, etc.) - 5% of Time.

Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma/GED required. 3 - 5 years experience in masonry, concrete finishing, plastering, block laying or building restoration.
Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Mathematical calculation skills necessary.
- Computer skills/familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets required.
- Able to utilize electronic procurement system.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally required.
- Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds and work from height up to 100 feet.
- Ability to work under a variety of conditions, such as confined space (tunnels, pits), heights and hot/cold conditions.
- Required to work outdoors 30% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees.
- Valid driver's License required
