The Administrative Assistant I (Zoo Receptionist) provides customer service to the public, both in person and via telephone, and interacts with employees in all departments of the Zoo, other departments of BREC and vendors. This position provides office support including preparing the bi-weekly Zoo payroll, routine data entry, handling incoming calls to the Zoo, monitoring radio calls from keepers and staff, maintaining work request records and managing the request and distribution of office supplies. In addition, this position monitors Zoo security gates, security cameras and vehicle key distribution. This position may be required to work during major events ie. Zoo Lights, Boo at the Zoo, which could include some nights and weekends. This position will also assist the Administrative Services Supervisor with special projects, as needed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Education Required: High School DiplomaPreferred: Vo-tech school diploma or associate degree Area of Study (major) Preferred: Business or related License Required: Valid Louisiana Driver's License in good standingYears Relevant Work Experience: 2 years experience in office setting with keyboard/computer experiencePreferred: 3 or more years related experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment and clerical techniques Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word & PowerPoint, Outlook)Knowledge of business, English, spelling and arithmeticExcellent written and oral communication skills, public relations and interpersonal skillsAbility to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports/correspondence/presentationsGood Interpersonal/organizational/telephone skillsHigh customer service skills and the ability to deal with the public with tact and courtesyAbility to communicate information to others both orally and in writingAbility to receive and resolve complaints and questionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, volunteers, employees and zoo guests. Ability to use basic mathematical tabulations and computations and make corrections accurately Ability to assess emergency situations & respond appropriately
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Full-time position; Generally, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; lunch break daily; overtime as needed. Some evening and weekend work required, especially during special events.
