About Nezami Lab
The Nezami Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Harvard Medical School affiliate) focuses on solving critical challenges in cardiology and cardiac surgery through an integrated approach combining AI, biomedical engineering, and translational research. We leverage techniques from reinforcement learning, computational modeling, fluid dynamics, and image processing to design, evaluate, and optimize life-support devices such as prosthetic valves, stents, and mechanical circulatory assist systems. Our lab bridges silico modeling and real-world clinical applications to inform device design, risk prediction, and treatment strategy optimization.
Internship Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. or advanced Master's-level research intern for Summer 2025 to join our team in applying cutting-edge AI and machine learning techniques to cardiothoracic surgical risk modeling and decision support. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in reinforcement learning, deep learning, probabilistic modeling, and a passion for applying these tools to high-impact biomedical applications.
Key Responsibilities
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and cardiac care, contributing to real-world translational research in one of the nation’s leading academic hospitals. Interns will gain exposure to cutting-edge biomedical AI research, guided by experts in surgery, computational modeling, and machine learning. The experience is especially valuable for those pursuing academic careers or industry roles in biomedical AI, medical robotics, or health-focused ML/AI systems.
