Posting Closes Thursday, May 31, 2024 Position Location This full-time position will be located at BYU–Idaho’s campus in Rexburg, Idaho. Position Summary The Family History Research Online Program Director oversees all aspects of BYU–Idaho’s Family History associate degree offered online through BYU–Pathway Worldwide. In this position, the Family History Research Online Program Director develops and improves course curriculum, helps oversee the quality of instruction and grading, and helps facilitate a variety of experiences designed to assist students prepare for successful careers in the Family History Research industry. The Family History Research Online Program Director will also regularly teach a variety of online Family History Research courses. With over a thousand students currently enrolled in Family History Courses, BYU–Idaho’s online associate degree in Family History Research is the largest program of its kind in the world. Through BYU–Pathway Worldwide, we offer two sequential certificates in Family History Research and Advanced Family History Research to students throughout the world. With this broad audience, our courses teach essential skills in Family History Research that can be applied by students in a wide variety of circumstances, while also teaching students the best industry tools and practices. In harmony with other programs offered through BYU–Pathway Worldwide, all our Family History courses are currently being developed as seven-week block courses that utilize instructional teams with instructors and graders. This course and instruction model is designed to help students progress more quickly to graduation and to keep costs low, ensuring our program remains affordable for students. Throughout their careers, all BYU–Idaho faculty are expected to actively pursue professional development opportunities in learning and teaching and ongoing scholarly development within their discipline. Applicants should either have an advanced degree in Family History Research or a related field with strong research and writing emphasis (e.g. history, library science, law, etc.). Five years of professional experience with Family History Research, or a professional genealogical research certification is also preferred. Examples of industry-recognized certifications include; Accredited Genealogist (AG®), Certified Genealogist (CG®), Qualified Genealogist (QG), or a postgraduate qualification from an accredited institution in a related field. A strong commitment to the mission of BYU–Idaho and to spreading educational opportunities to students throughout the world is essential. Additionally, to be successful, applicants will need strong skills in written and oral communication, online teaching, curriculum design, collaboration with others, and leadership. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to and evidence of excellence in teaching. Work Schedule and Location All full-time faculty members complete 36 load hours annually; this total includes up to 6 load hours of professional development. Block terms for online students last seven weeks, with six block terms offered each year. In the days immediately preceding and following semesters, faculty members attend meetings, grade papers, perform professional development activities, etc. Annual faculty contracts cover 47.5 weeks.
