Employment & Communications Specialist
Come join the BYU History Department, where we explore the rich tapestry of human history through the lens of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As our Employment & Communications Specialist, you will provide crucial support for our academic programs, student recruitment, and departmental services. You will coordinate the hiring and training of student employees, manage the department’s social media presence, oversee some event logistics, and work with our amazing faculty, staff, and students! This part-time opportunity offers an average of up to 28 hours per week with flexibility in your work schedule and some really incredible benefits. Employment & Communications Specialist

What You’ll Do In This Position
- Facilitate student employee hiring, including recruitment, onboarding, and training, while also ensuring compliance with university hiring policies
- Provide ongoing support for student employees and maintain accurate employment records and documentation
- Serve as the main coordinator for recruitment and student engagement events, such as the Major Fair, College Showcase, and the department’s Opening Social.
- Oversee our department’s social media presence and communications, creating engaging content to highlight department news, events, and faculty achievements
- Create weekly newsletters to promote events, student resources, and academic achievements, as well as update and manage department websites and digital content
- Supervise and mentor department student social media specialists
- Serve as the department’s textbook and desk copy coordinator, including maintaining relationships with publishers and ensuring faculty receive all needed instructional materials
- Provide support for the Phi Alpha Theta honor society and the Family History program
What qualifies you for this role:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of education and/or office work experience
- Excellent computer and public relations skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and with a team
- Efficient and accurate data entry skills
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills
- Any required licenses, certifications, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in an office setting
- Supervisory experience
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, Canva, and the Adobe Creative Suite
- Familiarity with Workday and other university systems
- Knowledge of HR programs offered by the university
- Awareness of laws and government regulations impacting HR programs
