Job Summary
Medical Billing Specialist
The Medical Billing Specialist works at our office in Ontario, CA. The Medical Billing Specialist reports to the Billing Manager and is responsible for billing insurance claims, inputting patient demographics information and insurance, and Medicare and Medi-Cal verification.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate daily with internal and external customers via phone calls and written communications.
- Answer high volume of patient pone calls and review patient bill information.
- Must bill a minimum of 150 insurance claims per day.
- Post payments from patients and insurance.
- Review email inquires from clients and patients.
- Input check payments from patients and insurances.
- Prepare check deposits.
- Work-up claim denials and appeals for accounts receivable
- Pull lab orders and print test results for claims.
- Ability to work under minimal guidance and supervision.
- Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Must send in a daily summary of completed tasks at the end of each shift.
- Must be able to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- May assist with training, coaching, and the development of coworkers and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must take all assigned Human Resources trainings and classes.
- Responsible for attending all department and staff meetings.
Education and Experience
- Highschool Diploma or GED.
- Employed in a Medical Billing Specialist position for at least one year, preferred.
- Medical Billing Certificate or Degree, required.
- Previous customer service experience, required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Record maintenance skills using EMR, EHR, and Box.
- Ability to learn billing procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Ability to prepare and print routine correspondence, labels, and/or other basic written material.
- Word processing and/or data entry skills using Microsoft Office and Google Sheets.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and working at a copier.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and sit/stand for long periods of time.
