What are the responsibilities and job description for the La Fuente Youth Mentors- Search Extended position at Brockton Public Schools?
TO: ALL TEACHING AND ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL BROCKTON PUBLIC SCHOOLSFROM: Dr. Kathleen F. Moran Assistant Superintendent of Human ResourcesSUBJECT: La Fuente Youth Mentors (3) Brockton High School is looking for an enthusiastic youth mentor to work with students and lead school-wide, data-driven change. With a focus on youth agency, this Youth Empowerment work is called La Fuente (The Fountain), emphasizing youth, as a fountain of knowledge and wisdom, belonging as essential partners of the programs and policies aiming to serve them.
In partnership with The Equity Imperative, this La Fuente Youth Mentor role will receive professional learning opportunities, as well as one-on-one support with implementation of youth empowerment programming. The La Fuente Youth Mentor Team (3-4) are engaged from the initial stages of the project through a planning process that prioritizes the recruitment and engagement of historically excluded students to center the marginalized voices at the core of program implementation. The Equity Imperative will work with the team to build Developmental Relationships (developed by the Search Institute) with students to practice Youth Participatory Action Research (derived from YPAR Hub UC Berkeley). Both mentors and students go through Cycles of Engagement, a minimum of 3 per school year, as incremental voice opportunities for students, to build a community of practice towards systemic change.
Each cycle ends with a panel of youth who present each phase of the Youth Participatory Action Research practice before an audience of school community stakeholders who can use their spheres of influence to make the research-based recommendations for change a systemic reality. The final panel is a youth summit where the entire school community is invited.
