Overview Medical Assistant's Responsibilites:
- Clinical Support: Assist pediatric healthcare professionals during examinations, prepare patients for treatments, and record vital signs.
- Administrative Tasks: Schedule appointments, update medical records, and ensure seamless communication with patients and families.
- Patient Care: Explain procedures to young patients and their families, administer vaccinations, and perform routine screenings.
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized environment, including exam rooms and equipment.
- Communication: Liaise between patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
Clinical & Patient Care Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations by:
- Recording vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature)
- Collecting medical history and discussing reasons for the visit
- Performing comprehensive preventative screenings
- Assist during the same day in-office medical procedures:
- Help pediatricians examine and treat patients
- Administer vaccinations and medications
- Perform simple laboratory tests, including rapid strep tests
- Conduct specific pediatric assessments:
- Measure head circumference
- Perform hearing and vision screenings
- Carry out phlebotomy procedures and administer electrocardiograms (EKGs)
- Create a welcoming environment:
- Greet patients and families with a friendly, caring atmosphere
- Calm anxious children and earn their trust
- Educate patients and families:
- Explain procedures and treatments in a reassuring way
- Provide pre- and post-care instructions
- Discuss concerns and direct patients to proper medical resources
- Ensure patient comfort and safety:
- Prepare and stock examination rooms
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Assist with transporting patients when necessary
- Communicate effectively:
- Interpret information from children if unclear
- Relay messages between patients, families, and healthcare providers
Requirements
- High School Diploma – Required
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program – Required
- Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, etc.) – Preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, and proficiency in electronic health records systems.
