Job Title: 6-12 Grade Athletic Director
Reports To: Superintendent or Assigned Administrator
Location: Brown County Schools
Employment Status: Full-Time; 230 Day Contract
Job Summary:
The 6-12 Grade Athletic Director is responsible for the leadership, administration, and overall
development of the athletic programs across middle and high school levels. This individual will
oversee student-athlete recruitment and retention, coach development, facility management,
community outreach, and the growth of programs that bridge elementary, middle, and high
school athletics. The Athletic Director will work collaboratively with coaches, school leaders, and
community stakeholders to ensure an inclusive, competitive, and student-centered athletic
experience that supports academic and athletic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Program Development
- Provide visionary leadership in developing and maintaining high-quality, competitive
athletic programs for grades 6-12.
- Establish and maintain a strong, student-centered athletic culture that prioritizes
character, teamwork, and leadership development.
- Ensure compliance with state, conference, and district regulations while upholding the
highest standards of sportsmanship.
- Serve as the liaison between administration, coaches, students, and families regarding
athletic programs.
Communication & Community Engagement
- Effectively communicate the mission, values, and goals of the athletic program to
students, families, staff, and the community.
- Foster strong community engagement by working with booster clubs, parent
organizations, and local businesses to promote and support school athletics.
- Develop a consistent and transparent communication strategy through social media,
newsletters, and school announcements.
Student Recruitment & Retention
- Develop and implement strategies to increase student participation in athletics and
encourage multi-sport participation.
- Work closely with students and families to promote the benefits of athletic involvement
and encourage retention in school sports.
- Collaborate with school counselors and academic advisors to ensure student-athletes
maintain academic eligibility and success.
Coach Recruitment, Development & Retention
- Hire, mentor, and evaluate high-quality coaches committed to student growth and
program excellence.
- Provide ongoing professional development for coaches, including leadership training,
sportsmanship education, and program-building strategies.
- Foster a positive coaching culture that emphasizes student development, teamwork, and
ethical leadership.
Facilities & Equipment Management
- Oversee the maintenance, scheduling, and improvement of athletic facilities to ensure
safety and optimal use.
- Coordinate with district leaders and maintenance teams to plan facility upgrades and
necessary improvements.
- Manage the distribution, inventory, and care of athletic equipment and uniforms.
Building Programs & Youth Feeder Systems
- Develop strong, structured youth feeder programs that introduce elementary students to
school athletics and build excitement for middle and high school participation.
- Establish partnerships with local youth leagues, recreation departments, and club
programs to create a seamless pipeline for student-athletes.
- Organize youth sports camps, clinics, and outreach programs to engage younger
students and families in BCS athletics.
Bridging Elementary to Middle to High School
- Develop strategies to support student-athletes through key transitions from elementary
to middle school and from middle to high school.
- Work with middle and high school coaches to ensure continuity in training, expectations,
and team culture.
- Encourage collaborative programming between elementary, middle, and high school
athletic teams.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in athletic administration, education, sports management, or
a related field.
- Experience in coaching, athletic administration, or school leadership preferred.
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to build relationships and foster collaboration among students, staff, families, and
the broader community.
- Knowledge of sports rules, regulations, safety standards, and eligibility guidelines.
- Experience in budget management, facility operations, and program development.
- Ability to mentor and support coaches and student-athletes.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success in athletics.
