The Organization:
Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District is home to 18,000 residents. Formed initially as Williamson County Municipal Utility District No. 2 in 1977, BCMUD provides water and wastewater services, recreational activities, beautiful gardens, parks, and miles of trails through the Brushy Creek community. BCMUD operates four swimming pools, four tennis courts, and a disc golf course throughout the community.
The Brushy Creek Community Center is at the heart of our District. Our Community Center features two gyms, two racketball courts, a weight room, a rock wall, and recreational programming, including various fun activities and educational and fitness classes.
Brushy Creek employs approximately 190 seasonal, part-time, and full-time team members.
Information Technology System Administrator:
Brushy Creek MUD seeks a forward-thinking and security-minded IT System Administrator to manage and enhance the District's IT operations. This role is critical in ensuring systems are reliable, efficient, secure, and fully compliant with industry regulations. You'll lead cybersecurity, data protection, and IT compliance efforts while overseeing infrastructure, supporting users, and driving tech-forward initiatives across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administers and supports computer systems, servers, and IT infrastructure to ensure uptime, performance, and security.
- Recommends, implements, and enforces IT policies and cybersecurity best practices, including system redundancies, access controls, and data protection protocols.
- Leads system implementations, upgrades, and configurations across desktop, laptop, server, and network environments.
- Delivers responsive end-user support and manages help desk tickets using diagnostic and tracking tools.
- Ensures effective data backup and disaster recovery strategies per District compliance standards.
- Collaborates with leadership on strategic IT initiatives that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees infrastructure security, network integrity, and cybersecurity measures to protect against threats, breaches, and unauthorized access.
- Monitors compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including data governance and privacy mandates.
- Maintains secure communication and access systems (phone, online, surveillance, badge access, mobile).
- Ensures all IT operations align with regulatory requirements and industry standards, such as NIST, CMMC, or applicable public sector frameworks.
- Drives organization-wide cybersecurity awareness, training, and incident response planning.
- Assesses and enforces data collection, storage, and sharing practices to ensure integrity and compliance.
- Directs projects that improve system efficiency, automation, and data security across departments.
- Performs diagnostics, resolves technical issues, and conducts rigorous quality assurance testing of systems.
- Collaborates with the General Manager to develop the IT budget, justify expenditures, and optimize vendor partnerships.
- Supervises external IT consultants and managed service providers to ensure effective delivery and compliance oversight.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or Information Technology, or related field, or a combination of education and experience that yields the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- 5 years' experience in Microsoft Windows, server installations, configurations, and Active Directory
- 3 years' experience with backup systems
- 3 years' experience with systems documentation
