About the Role
The COO will be a key member of the leadership team, overseeing the firm’s day-to-day operations and ensuring all business functions run seamlessly and efficiently. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with founding partners to define and implement the firm’s operational strategy.
- Drive initiatives that improve efficiency, profitability, and client service.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team, providing insights and recommendations for firm-wide growth.
Operations & Business Management
- Oversee administrative functions, including HR, finance, IT, marketing, and facilities management.
- Streamline firm processes to enhance workflow, client service, and case management efficiency.
- Develop and implement metrics to measure operational performance and financial health.
- Manage budgeting and financial planning to ensure the firm's long-term sustainability.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop administrative and operational staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top legal and administrative talent.
- Ensure that team structure and resources align with firm growth.
Client & Case Support
- Align operational processes with client needs, ensuring the firm maintains its reputation for excellence.
- Work with partners to enhance client experience, refining workflow efficiencies and communication strategies.
Technology & Innovation
- Identify and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency, case management, and client communication.
- Oversee the adoption of practice management tools, reporting systems, and automation to enhance firm operations.
Financial & Firm Economics Oversight
- Develop and monitor KPIs across all business functions, ensuring profitability and efficiency.
- Analyze and optimize firm revenue, realization rates, and cost structures.
- Establish and monitor a bonus and incentive structure tied to performance metrics and firm growth.
- Provide financial reports and strategic insights to support data-driven decision-making.
Who We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
- 7 years of operational leadership experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
- Experience managing business operations for a $10M revenue organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field (MBA or equivalent preferred).
- Legal industry experience is preferred but not required.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage teams in a high-performance culture.
- Strong financial acumen—budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills—confident, strategic, and persuasive.
- Process improvement expertise—organizational change, conflict management, and problem-solving.
- Familiarity with legal operations and billing systems preferred.
