Based in San Leandro, Building Futures is an Alameda County leader providing a safety net of services to help individuals and families rebuild safe and stable lives after homelessness and family violence. The Lewelling Shelter and Drop-In Center, set to open in March 2025, will serve chronically homeless individuals. The center comprises 29 interim - shelter rooms and offers drop-in services (showers, laundry, meals, meetings and individual meetings) five days weekly.

POSITION SUMMARY : Building Futures seeks a Drop-in Center Site Superv isor (Interim Housing) who coordinates all operations of the site including supervision of resident advocates. The site supervisor will monitor security, inventory and vendors management, food distribution, and program safety / security. The Interim Housing and Drop-in Center Site Supervisor maintains a respectful, supportive environment for guests / program participants. This role requires hands-on leadership and administrative oversight. Strong organizational, communication, and crisis-response skills are essential for success in this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the development and provision of services for Drop-In Center guests, focusing on basic needs (meals, showers, laundry, clothing). Ensure the cleanliness of the facility including laundry and shower rooms
  • Train, manage and supervise Residential Advocates, to ensure best practices in working with program participants, promoting respectful, empathetic, and supportive client interactions.to ensure efficient site operations and adherence to program policies
  • Ensure that all direct reporting staff completes all necessary documentation; for example, group case management notes, housing applications, individual case plans and referrals to partner providers
  • Ensure adequate shift coverage, manage staff schedules, and be on-call to address program needs or cover shifts as needed. Review and sign time sheet
  • Lead and participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested
  • Oversee Resident Advocates in completing unit inspections (daily, quarterly, and annual)
  • Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Oversee inventory tracking, ordering, and approval of supplies
  • Ensure site security
  • Available on a 24-hour basis for emergency situations. Track and analyze incidents and assist in incident debriefings
  • Complete and submit reports (daily, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual), ensuring logs, mail, and requests are stored in an organized manner
  • Uphold program rules while fostering an environment of support and empathy, ensuring that interactions with residents are courteous and professional
  • Communicate effectively with guests / program participants, direct reporting staff, peers, supervisors, and funders. May conduct welcome sessions for new guests / program participants to orient to the rules and regulations of the site
  • Represent the program in the community, fostering positive relations and awareness of the program’s mission and services
  • Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong leadership abilities, with demonstrated skills in staff supervision, problem-solving, and crisis management
  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years’ experience in a similar role, ideally with homeless populations; and three years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of shelter or residential program operations, including maintenance and inventory management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills for managing shelter operations and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Experience working with a diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical and mental
  • Ability to respond responsibly in emergency and crisis
  • Ability to work varied hours / days including evenings / weekends / holidays
  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of auto
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Work an 8-hour workday.
  • Hand use : single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
