In addition to meeting the individual occupation requirement (IOR), you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity.

To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience may include; Experience as an outdoor recreation planner assisting on matters of controversy, inadequate data, inconsistent procedures, or lack of guides. Develop guidelines, standards and procedures for recreation programs. Experience in the management of recreation on public lands, including dealing with all aspects of a high intensity use programs, interdisciplinary planning, clearances, permitting, public land rehabilitation, OHV management, wilderness management, etc. Develop and monitor outdoor recreation program operations and budget. Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

To qualify for the GS-13, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience may include: Experience as a senior outdoor recreation planner developing guidelines, standards, and procedures for a recreation program. Conduct analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interest and needs and make recommendations for the preparation of plans. Implement major resource management plans, coordinate local monitoring and environmental review regarding public lands and private development proposals and master plans. Monitor program operations and assist or prepare budgetary directives. Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Physical Demands: There is moderate physical demands and occasional stress due to tight deadlines and conflict resolution. A majority of the work involves writing, researching, and oral presentations. Field work and trips may be required to complete a variety of outdoor recreation activities. Travel may be through vehicle, off road vehicle, bicycle, airplane, or watercraft. Field visits may be in remote areas by foot and require carrying a backpack.

Work Environment: Work is normally conducted indoors in an office setting. Occasional field work may include exposure to extreme heat, cold, and altitude.
