Burlington School District is seeking an energetic individual to fill the Temporary Community Schools Coordinator role. The Community Schools Coordinator (CSC) supports the implementation of the five pillars of community schools in BSD schools, particularly focusing on schools serving students grades 9-12. The CSC is a temporary grant funded position ending June 30 2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a needs and assets inventory by working with school administrators, district staff, partner agencies, parents and students to identify strengths in each pillar of community schools, available resources, and gaps in programs, services, and resources.
- Support implementation of district and school goals for the development of BSD as a Community School district
- Collaborate with administrators, staff, and external agencies to coordinate all services that are part of community schools initiatives that take place during and beyond the school day.
- Identify, engage, and recruit partners to offer programs and services for students and families based on the needs assessment. Develop Memorandums of Understanding (MOU’s) with partners to provide services.
- Regularly collaborate with school leadership, students and staff. Serve on school and community leadership teams/meetings
- Build strong relationships with school partners and diverse community stakeholders. Identify opportunities for alignment of services critical to school and community needs
- Perform responsibilities related to program evaluation, reporting and program recommendations based on grant evaluative outcomes.
- Monitor program budgets and funding requirements.
- Lead or participate in family engagement events with the school and community partners
- Present to school staff, student, and family groups on Community School elements and initiatives.
- Serve as BSD representative on the Catamount Community Schools Collaborative
- Work with AOE grant team to monitor and evaluate grant progress
- Ensure this work is aligned with the BSD strategic plan and five priority areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Knowledge of the public education system in Burlington and Vermont
- Excellent listening, writing, and public speaking skills
- Highly effective time-management, goal-setting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to gather, analyze, synthesize, and communicate information from various sources
- Strong group facilitation skills
- Knowledgeable in issues related to K-12 schools and education reform
- Ability to obtain and utilize student and school data to drive decisions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Connections with community-based organizations and experience facilitating partnerships with these organizations
- Ability to work effectively with school aged youth, educators, families and communities from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds
- Strong computer/technology skills including the Google suite
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, social work, behavioral sciences, counseling, or other related fields;
Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience performing similar functions and duties, preferably in a school or district setting. Experience in implementing elements of the community schools model in a diverse setting is preferred.
