Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home is seeking to add a full-time Funeral Attendant & Decedent Transportation Specialist to our team. Experience in the funeral industry is not required, on the job training will be provided for this dynamic position. The right applicant will possess good communication skills, be comfortable interacting in challenging and sensitive settings, have efficient time management skills, be able to lift a reasonable amount of weight and be detailed oriented to assist the team as needed. OVERALL DUTIES INCLUDE:
· Responding to the location of death (i.e., hospitals, nursing homes, residences, hospice facilities) and facilitating initial contact with families at the time of their loved ones’ passing
· Interacting with family, first responders, medical professionals, etc.
· Respectfully transfer decedent into our care (training will be provided).
· Completing inventory of all personal belongings.
· Following our strict decedent tracking policy.
· Driving company vehicles.
· Adherence to an on-call rotation, which includes nights and weekends.
· Maintaining facilities and vehicle fleet.
· Preparing building for services.
· Assisting with visiting hours, funerals & cemetery events (which may be on weekends or evenings)
· Escorting families & coordinating parking
· Maintaining a friendly, respectful attitude while offering assistance
Due to the nature of our business, this position require candidates to have professional attire (business suits), live within a 30-minute radius of Rockland, a clean and crisp appearance, work an on-call rotation to help families in the immediate aftermath of a loss. This position is a full-time position with additional on-call hours.
A clean driving record is required. Applicants will be required to attain the appropriate state licensure upon hire which would be subject to a background check.
WORK SCHEDULE:
40 Hours per week Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Additional On-Call Responsibilities
~ Evenings and weekend shifts are managed through a rotating schedule.
~ On-Call Staff must be available to respond to urgent matters outside of standard business hours.
COMPENSATION:
~ Up to $25 per hour
~ Additional stipends and compensation for after-hours and transfer work.
