Transportation Supervisor
Working this job means bouncing between the office and warehouse. Communication is key to this role, whether it be customer, sales, or peers. Getting the most up–to–date information on anything that can – and will – disrupt a shipment or delivery is crucial to managing expectations up and down the line. While you will be consulting these schedules, making use of transportation management software, and communicating with all relevant parties in real-time, you also must ensure proper and adequate safety protocols are being followed enroute and at the various locations. Sometimes this involves being onsite and hands-on.
Key Job functions
- Directing activities related to planning, procuring, dispatching, routing, and tracking of transportation vehicles or freight companies.
- Planning, organizing, and managing subordinate staff members to ensure work is completed and consistent with the company’s standards.
- Directing investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
- Collaborating with staff members to formulate and implement transportation-related procedures and customer service objectives.
- Arranging repairs and routine maintenance of transportation vehicles.
- Complying with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules and government regulations while preparing shipments for customers. Double checking for accuracy on the bill of lading, packaging and placards.
- Promoting safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending company safety meetings.
- Researching transportation costs and methods and opportunities to improve network efficiency with freight companies. Negotiating the rates quarterly with documentation of the changes.
- Investigating lost packages and shipments, notifying customers and resolving the matter, and filing a claim.
- Communicating with other managers about the status of incoming supplies and outgoing products.
- Scheduling employees and checking timeclock punches for accuracy.
- Creating a timeline for each order to ship timely.
- Analyzing information about delivery times and expenses to minimize future costs.
- Managing, sharing, and updating daily audits of inventory levels and discrepancies.
- Receiving and entering po’s that are received on dock and double checking the staff’s information for correctness.
- Ensures driver compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (D.O.T., OSHA, etc.) and ensure electronic logs are kept current and accurate.
- Responsible for making sure the vehicles are compliant with licensing and registration information/tags.
- Successfully engages and leads individual and team discussions and meetings.
- Executes management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews and/or terminations.
- Any task not listed to ensure the success of the department and company.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
