ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Currently searching for Student Assistants to work in the Maximizing Engineering Potential, Women in Science and Engineering (MEP-WiSE): Center for Gender, Diversity & Student Excellence. These positions are funded by the Kellogg Legacy Project Endowment, under the supervision of Dr. Lily Gossage, MEP-WiSE Director. Employment dates: April 4, 2025 – August 12, 2025. 20 hours per week while enrolled in classes, 30-35 hours per week when not enrolled in classes.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
MEP-WiSE Summer Associate: The “Summer Associate” will assist with a variety of tasks, culminating in the implementation of MEP’s “Engineering In Your Future” (EIYF) 3-day program (for First-time Freshman) and virtual program (for Transfer students). This position is a great way to spend the summer and develop leadership skills and basic project management skills, workplace business professionalism, and experience a sense of accomplishment in supporting incoming students. If you are a current MEP-WiSE student, you have experienced the MEP-WiSE summer program first-hand. Please consider working this summer as a Summer Associate and pass on the excitement and experience to the Fall 2025 incoming class of engineering students.
Work Detail: Assist in developing/implementing the summer program; Be a mentor/lead a group of incoming students; Help coordinate student activities (team-building); Provide tutoring in first-year fundamental STEM courses; Help coordinate Mentor/Mentee match survey results; Conduct phone campaigns; Answer student questions via phone/email; Collaborate with student leaders, tutors, MEP staff; Collaborate with industry reps and campus services; Develop leadership and other critical professional workplace skills; Remain vigilant and aware of potential safety issues; Demonstrate thorough understanding of reporting protocols to staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate pursuing STEM degree.
- Preferred – Member of the MEP-WiSE program or affiliated with the MEP-WiSE program.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
