Position Description
Metropolitan’s Water Quality Section, Microbiology Unit, Reservoir Management Team has one opening for Biology/Microbiology/Environmental Biology majors. This position will require a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, in four-hour blocks of time or more per shift.
Duties
Under the guidance of the Reservoir Management Team staff, the selected co-op student will provide support to the algae monitoring and management program. The student will assist in the processing of samples for analysis, data entry, and algae culture maintenance.
Required Skills and/or Coursework
Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited four-year degree program in Biology/Microbiology/Environmental Biology. A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or better in relevant major coursework (i.e., biology/microbiology) is required. Sophomore or junior status with approximately two years remaining before graduation is preferred.
Desirable Skills and Abilities
· Course work and/or experience in microbiology labs
· Computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel
· Good organizational skills
· Works effectively and stays on task under minimal supervision.
