Location: Oroville is located in Butte County in Northern California, about 75 minutes north of Sacramento on Highway 70. The area offers low congestion, an affordable cost of living, and ample opportunities for outdoor recreation while still offering all the modern amenities nestled in beautiful a foothill location. Chico, home of a California State University and one of the largest municipal park systems in the United States is also within a short drive from Oroville and offers additional opportunities for recreation, entertainment, and places to live.


Duties: Under direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources, you will perform construction engineering duties for the Construction Branch projects to ensure construction contracts for the Oroville/Thermalito complex are completed on schedule and in accordance with Division requirements and project specifications.


Desirable Qualifications: We are seeking individuals with relevant civil engineering/construction engineering work experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, who are able to take independent action, pay close attention to detail, work in a team environment and have experience with Microsoft Office suite.


Special Requirements: Must possess a valid California Driver's License to safely operate State and/or personal vehicles as part of the duties of the position. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite Programs and a personal computer.

Range D incumbents in this classification must possess a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.


Benefits: DWR offers an excellent compensation and benefits package to their employees including medical, dental, and vision insurance, FlexElect accounts for pre-tax medical and dependent care payments, and the Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) in addition to both Roth and pre-tax 401(k) and 457 (b) retirement accounts.


Water Resource Engineers with their California Professional Engineer (PE) license start at $9,244 per month. After 12 months of satisfactory performance, employees receive a 5% merit salary adjustment until the maximum salary of the range is reached.


Work-life balance is also a priority for DWR. Telework, alternative work week schedules, an employee assistance program, and student loan forgiveness (through US Dept. of Education) are available among other benefits. There are also 11 paid State Holidays, one Personal Holidays, two Professional Development Days, and sick and vacation leave or annual leave are accrued monthly at a starting rate of 8 hours, 7 hours, and 11 hours, respectively.
