The Public Safety Communications (PSC), Client Engineering Services, CHP Unit is responsible for a wide array of engineering activities and services related to the public safety communications systems engineering and design for public safety agencies of the State of California. Under direction of a Senior Telecommunications Engineer, the position ensures engineering services for public safety communications meet the critical operational requirements of the state.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. Cal OES provides training to enhance the understanding of emergency and incident management to all employees.
The Logistics Directorate is responsible for a wide variety of Cal OES functions, including asset management, fleet administration, facilities management, information technology systems, warehousing, forms and records management, mail operations, copy service center, green programs, public safety communications, and emergency and disaster logistics.
In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Strong client-facing and communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate interaction and coordination with other technical staff across multiple disciplines to solve complex technical problems.
- Ability to function effectively on independent assignments and also be an effective contributor on project teams.
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, VPN, and IP technologies.
- Knowledge of features and functions of operating systems, applications, remote access, and network connectivity.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure connectivity including cabling, hubs, switches, and routers, etc.
- Knowledge of public safety Land Mobile Radio (LMR).
- Capable of conducting radio surveys by using a Land Mobile Radio (LMR).
