Assistant Nurse Manager – Camp
Full-Time, Year-Round Position

Camp Loyaltown is a large residential summer camp for developmentally disabled children and adults. Our Campers range in age from 6 years to 80 plus years old; most of the campers are between 10 years old– and 60 years old.
The Camp Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for the coordination of all operations of the Camp Loyaltown Health Center including hiring and supervision of Nursing and Health Center staff, following ACA, DOH, and agency policies. Screening potential campers for admission, collaborating with leadership on planning for upcoming season, respite weekends when occurring and facility & document management. The Camp Assistant Nurse Manager has the option of living at camp in a private accommodation (room/board) if preferred.
In this role, you will:
- Work with the Camp Nurse Manager and Camp leadership to design a staffing pattern/organizational chart to support each camp season’s unique needs accounting for the supervision of all Nursing staff and Health Care Assistants.
- Work with the Camp Nurse Manager to coordinate schedules for nursing and HCA staff within the established annual nursing budget including orientation, weekly work schedules inclusive of daily mandatory breaks and approved vacation time. Review/approval/submission of nurse’s time sheets/time off; Ensure adequate coverage of nursing schedule in the event of sick call/ staffing shortage if schedule requires. Step in to provide coverage in emergencies. Collaborates with Camp HR to coordinate advertising, recruiting, and hiring of camp nurses.
- Work with the Camp Nurse Manager for overall coordination of Health Center activities including ordering medical supplies; inventory and maintaining organization within the health center, including vaccine programs, submitting daily reports, ensuring cleanliness, infection control standards are met, regular checks of equipment per regulation (AED, refrigerator temp, med storage locks, etc.).
- Ensure that nursing practice standards are followed as it relates to health center documentation including medication and non-medication incident reporting, progress notes, triage of health conditions, staff training, etc.
- Complete Medicaid waiver and intensive rate applications for those camp participants meeting the criteria to participate.
- Immediately available “on call” (telephone triage) to program for emergencies 24-7 any time that camp/respite is underway unless alternate coverage is arranged (defined as within 30 minutes).
- Travel to meetings as needed, including Camp Family information sessions in advance of each camp season.
- Ensure that an RN who meets the on-site requirements (completion of RTE class) is present on campgrounds 24/7 during children’s session of camp. Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager will fill this role if choosing to live on campgrounds or will ensure scheduling of such on an as-needed basis.
- Practice and promote the agencies’ mission statements in every interaction: “Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports People to live the Life they choose.”
- Adhere to all agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook, and agency and program training requirements.
- Report to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect, follow all agency incident policies and procedures; Report and record any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well-being of the people that attend camp (i.e., allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, etc.).
We require:
- NYS certification as a Registered Nurse
- CPR/AED certification yearly as per DOH camp regulations
- Three to 5 years of nursing supervisory/ leadership experience preferred
- Good organizational and administrative skills and an excellent team player with a positive attitude
