What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Tax Accountant position at Canal HR Inc.?
We are a local Metairie based Professional Employer Organization or PEO company seeking an experienced payroll tax accountant, for a full time in-office position, filing and paying payroll related taxes. We are a multi-state employer for our PEO clients, and also have several payroll clients that require separate filings for their 941’s and W-2’s. The majority of the responsibilities of this job are related to payroll taxes however, there are a few minor duties not related to payroll taxes.
A payroll tax accountant is responsible for calculating, processing, and filing all payroll taxes for a company, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations by accurately calculating employee and employer tax deductions, preparing tax returns, and reconciling payroll tax accounts, while staying updated on tax laws and regulations to maintain accurate payroll tax filings.
This position prepares and files weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll tax payments and reporting such as 940, 941, state tax withholding, and Suta, etc.
Our company has been in business over 30 years and has a very low employee turnover.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in accounting
Responsibilities:
· Knowledge of payroll tax accounting principles and practices
· Ability to pay strong attention to detail and perform accuracy in payroll tax filings and payments
· Conduct thorough tax research to stay updated on changing payroll tax laws and regulations and communicate changes
· Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate clearly
· Excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyze financial data accurately
· Strong organizational skills and ability to implement systems for backup personnel
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Prepare all year-end tax reporting, including W-2 and 1099 forms.
· Ability to research tax laws in new states if needed.
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally
This is an in-office full-time position.
Paid Time Off after 6 months, 10 hours a month, until one year, then 3 weeks a year.
Seven paid Holidays a year, if Holiday falls on scheduled work day.
