JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Director, Philanthropy and Community Engagement, Cancer Support Community (CSC) Washington, D.C., reports to CSC’s Executive Vice President, External Relations. The Senior Director, Philanthropy and Community Engagement will oversee all aspects of CSC DC and play a pivotal role in securing the financial stability and growth of the organization through comprehensive and strategic fundraising efforts. This includes leading major donor cultivation, corporate partnerships, grant writing, and high-impact fundraising campaigns and events. The role also encompasses managing the business of CSC DC and serving as the key liaison with community and healthcare partners. This position and location are under the CSC HQ umbrella.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Fundraising and Development
- Collaborate with the CSC HQ Development team to design, implement, and manage a dynamic and comprehensive fundraising strategy that not only ensures CSC DC’s financial health but also fosters deeper community connections and program sustainability.
- Build, cultivate, and diversify relationships with high-net-worth individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, community organizations, and local leaders to secure transformative gifts, recurring funding, and planned giving commitments, while emphasizing their role in strengthening community impact.
- Engage volunteers, advisory board members, and community stakeholders in fundraising efforts, ensuring they play a pivotal role in connecting CSC DC’s mission to the broader community.
- Spearhead the planning, coordination, and execution of high-impact fundraising events that not only raise substantial funds but also amplify CSC DC’s visibility, strengthen community ties, and create opportunities for volunteer and staff engagement.
- Develop compelling proposals and initiatives tailored to diverse donor audiences, with a focus on showcasing the unique needs and impact of CSC DC’s services in the local community.
- Represent CSC DC at high-profile events and community gatherings, serving as an advocate for the organization’s mission while building long-term partnerships with donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Partner with the advisory board and volunteers to develop new opportunities for community engagement, ensuring all fundraising efforts are deeply connected to the unique needs of the local community.
- Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies that emphasize relationship-building and community involvement, fostering a robust pipeline of new and recurring gifts.
Financial and Operational
- Develop and manage multi-year budgets to support programming and operations sustainably while aligning financial decisions with the needs of the local community.
- Anticipate and adapt to external financial, political, and social factors, ensuring CSC DC remains a responsive and resilient resource for the community.
- Ensure CSC DC’s facilities provide a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment for individuals living with cancer and their loved ones, with a focus on serving residents of historically underserved communities, such as Wards 7 and 8.
- Oversee daily operations with an emphasis on creating an environment that reflects CSC DC’s commitment to community engagement and inclusivity.
- As future growth occurs, recruit, develop, and lead talented staff dedicated to delivering high-quality, impactful programs in alignment with CSC’s national standards.
Community Relations Management
- Build relationships with community members, volunteers, and advisory board members to enhance service delivery, increase awareness, and foster a shared sense of purpose in addressing the psychosocial needs of individuals impacted by cancer.
- Partner with HQ and the advisory board to implement strategic plans and initiatives that strengthen local programming and deepen connections within the community.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, health care providers, and local leaders to ensure CSC DC’s services are responsive to the unique needs of the region.
- Formulate and implement policies and procedures that ensure operational excellence while integrating community input to enhance the impact and reach of CSC DC’s work.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree. Advance degree preferred.
WORK LOCATION
CSC DC is located in Washington, D.C., and candidates are required to work in the office at least three days a week. However, they may reside anywhere in the surrounding area, allowing for a flexible hybrid work arrangement.
