About the Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for many of the underlying financial processes of the organization, including cash receipts, cash disbursements, account reconciliation, report preparation and analysis.      

A typical day as a Staff Accountant may include:  

• Process cash receipts for the organization on a daily basis, coding, posting and deposits to bank.  Regional cash receipts are processed as they arrive at the National offices or as deemed necessary.  

• Process daily Salesforce batches, making sure donations are credited to the correct income category. 

• Assist with the month end close, including performing bank and balance sheet account reconciliations etc. 

• Audit preparation and year-end processing.  Includes preparation of annual and year-end reports, preparation of 1099’s and any other reports as required by the Controller.   

• Prepare journal entries and postings to Sage Intacct required to maintain and reconcile general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers.   

• Create, update, and maintain the vendor database in Sage Intacct. 

• Produce accurate and timely annual property statements for all counties where Canine Companions maintains a campus, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 

• Ensure timely and accurate filing of sales tax returns with the relevant states where Canine Companions operates, in compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. 

• Undertake cross-training with other employees in the department to serve as a reliable backup as needed, thus ensuring continuity of operations, and minimizing disruptions in case of employee absence or turnover. 

• Develop and maintain documentation for the processes related to areas of responsibility, ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect any changes or improvements. 

• Prepare accounting reports and analysis as directed by manager. 

• When necessary, provide cover for the accounting activities of the Controller. 

• Filing of accounting records and reports and coordinate maintenance of accounting files with temporary help or volunteer support. 

• Be accountable not only for direct responsibilities outlined in this job description but also to serve fellow staff and other constituents with whom position interacts. Ensure actions and communications follow core values. 

• Record company credit card transactions and reconcile monthly credit card statements.  

• Review employee credit card transactions for adherence to company policies and accurate account coding.  

EXPECTATIONS:  

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum 2 years of financial accounting experience; experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce preferred.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in field directly related to this role, or combination of education and experience that would lead to the successful performance of the essential functions of the role.

SCHEDULE: Full - Time  

RATE OF PAY:  $26-$31 per hour 

The base salary range above represents the low and high of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of total compensation package for employees.
