GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Department of Arts & Communication seeks a full-time faculty member to teach Visual Art courses, including but not limited to Design 1 and 3-Dimensional Design. The full-time, tenure-track Arts & Design Faculty position is to be filled for the Fall 2025 semester.
We seek artists with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence who combine pedagogical techniques and introduce students to a range of materials and technologies. Candidates must be prepared to teach students at a variety of skill levels, at times within the same class. As an art department within a two-year institution, faculty are expected to offer strong foundational skills-based courses as well as some intermediate or advanced coursework. We invite imaginative thinking about how candidates might use the College's small but mighty studio classroom setting, supportive department, small class sizes, and flexible curricular structure to offer courses that are experimental, experiential, or interdisciplinary. Faculty have the opportunity to develop curricular and co-curricular projects connected to projects and resources on campus such as the Social and Economic Justice Institute, the Higgins Art Gallery and the Higgins Gallery Residency program, the Department of Robotics and Engineering, the Gull Island Institute, Cape Cod Media Con, Tilden Performing Arts Center, as well as the College's proximity to and relationship with the Fine Arts Work Center, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, the Islands of Cape Cod, and the Cape Cod National Seashore.
We seek a teacher with a demonstrated track record of successful college teaching who is also a practicing artist with a developing body of work. Candidates must have knowledge and expertise in specific areas of contemporary art and culture, as well as an effective understanding of art history, theory, and criticism, with special attention to 3D design and digital technologies. Candidates should be able to clearly articulate how their teaching practice addresses categories of difference in meaningful ways, including a working analysis of how structural barriers, inequities, and disparities play out in higher education.
This position requires a commitment to supporting a diverse student body in their goals to either transfer to a baccalaureate institution or secure a career after earning an associate degree. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Teach Art and Design to students of all levels.
- Keep current on developments and trends in Design, 3D Design and Studio Art.
- Take lead in student activities related to the Arts.
- Additionally, teach courses such as Computer Graphics, Digital Illustration, Digital Photography and/or other courses in Studio Art or Design that align with the candidate's areas of interest and expertise.
- Develop, implement, and assess student learning outcomes and curriculum at the course. discipline, program, and college level.
- Integrate online and HyFlex learning strategies in the classroom.
- Serve as Academic Advisor to approximately eighteen (18) students (45 hours per semester).
- Hold a minimum of four (4) office hours per week (60 hours per semester).
- Participate in Department, Division, and College meetings.
- Be committed to department initiatives to support the college's mission and values.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion to support students with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds.
- Master's degree in Visual or Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe XD.
- Experience working successfully with a diverse student body.
- Competency in using Learning Management Systems.
- Effective pedagogical, teaching, and presentation skills in both face-to-face and distance learning environments.
- A demonstrated collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to working with students and colleagues.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Minimum of three years working in the Visual Arts, Design, or 3D Design field.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Community college teaching experience.
- Two years teaching Visual Art, Design, and/or 3D Design at college level.
- An appreciation and engagement with current issues in art and art instruction.
- Demonstrated commitment to one or all of the following: engaging art as social practice, art as social justice, art as sustainability practice, art as ecological justice

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: Full-time, tenure-track, MCCC position with an anticipated Annual Salary Range of $52,880-$66,725. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, determined by a formula-based classification system, consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
