Dental Hygiene Faculty Member/First Year Coordinator - Cape Cod Community College

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Dental Hygiene Faculty Member and First-Year Coordinator will prepare, present, and evaluate lecture and clinic curriculum according to ADA accreditation requirements and College policies and procedures. The position is to be filled for the 2025/26 Academic Year.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Responsible for creating an Instructors Course Outline/schedule for first year clinical and select didactic courses and to serve as a first-year coordinator.
• Plan, supervise, and evaluate clinical learning experiences by scheduling clinical rotations for students, clinicians, and clinical assistants; organize clinical faculty rotations; supervise compliance with HIPAA policy; and supervise post-exposure management/documentation.
• Use established calibration protocol to evaluate student performance of clinical skills and related practice procedures pertaining to radiography, office management software, and electronic health records.
• Provide academic advising for students.
• Participate in Dental Sciences Program, Health Science Department and Division meetings. Schedule and chair weekly Freshman faculty team meetings.
• Provide calibration sessions for all Freshman clinical faculty.
• Participate in the management of the on-site clinic: (a) Monitor the clinic repair list and inform the Dental Sciences Clinic Coordinator when repairs are needed; (b) Prepare and monitor the patient schedule for students; (c) Management of patient concerns; and (d) Management of emergencies in the clinic.
• Participate in the program's Curriculum Management and Quality Assurance plans.
• Participate in the preparation of the Program self-study and accreditation process.
• Serve as an Advisor to the Dental Hygiene Club/ADHA student members. Coordinate with the club advisor regarding club events and budget requests.
• Oversee clinical dentist duties and grading.
• Prepare additional curriculum for the medical emergency's component in Dental Hygiene Clinic II DEN 128.
• Coordinate with other departments in the Health Science program to meet the inter-professional standard for CODA.
• Schedule and coordinate training on new equipment for both students and faculty and prepare standard operating procedures for new equipment for the first-year curriculum.
• Coordinate clinic schedules for dental hygiene clinic II for faculty, students, and the dentist.
• Assist clinical instructors in calibration and training on dental software.
• Train new part-time faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
• Commonwealth of MA Dental Hygiene registered dental hygiene license (active status) or eligibility.
• Master's degree in dental hygiene or related field.
• Current certification in the administration of local anesthesia. Eligible for Massachusetts Permit L.
• Current healthcare provider CPR and AED certification.
• Current membership in the American Dental Hygienists' Association.
• Five (5) years of current practice experience in private dental practice and/or dental clinic.
• Experience utilizing digital radiography and computerized dental management software.
• Evidence of current teaching methodologies, including experiences with media, innovative use of evolving instructional technologies in the classroom, and the use of learning management systems such as Moodle.
• Skill in implementing active and collaborative learning strategies.
• Skill in measuring student learning outcomes, evaluating course efficacy, and assessing and improving student learning.
• Demonstrated college level teaching experience required, community college experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience using Ascend computerized clinical software.
• Periodontal experience.
• Experience, appreciation, and commitment to working in a global, multicultural academic setting.

COMPENSATION: Full-time, tenure-track, MCCC Unit position with anticipated Annual Salary Range of $61,262-75,107. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, determined by a formula-based classification system, consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
