Summary
The Employee Relations Specialist position is responsible for ensuring human resources and employee practices are consistent and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and best practices. This includes administering complex processes such as conducting investigations, responding to complaints, issuing corrective actions, conflict resolution, leave management, and Equal Employment Opportunity.
Education and Formal Training:
Associate degree in human resources, business administration, or other related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Work Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related area such as: human resources, compensation, recruitment, and/or equal opportunity compliance required. A minimum of 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move throughout the Health System.
- Must be flexible in use of time and physical space.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift and move objects no more 15 pounds from one level to another.
- Must possess auditory and visual acuity to accurately perform job functions.
