What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Intake Counselor position at Capital Area Humane Society?
GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for animal intakes, answering phones, entering medical records into database, and maintaining the flow of unavailable animals in shelter.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Collaborate with Director of Operations on a daily basis.
- Intake animals.
- Assist patrons and promote CAHS in a polite, professional, and supportive manner.
- Vaccinate all animals upon intake
- Assist with daily tasks including entering medicals, returning phone calls, putting away donations, entering histories and other duties, as assigned.
- Assist with performing full health evaluations on all incoming animals including physicals, vaccinations, testing, de-worming, and flea preventative.
- Maintain all documentation for animal euthanasia.
- Must be euthanasia certified or become certified within 6-months of hire.
- Ensure animal medical information is entered correctly into database.
- Communicate with vet staff regarding health issues of incoming animals.
- Communicate with behavior manager for any animals with possible behavior issues.
- Communicate with animal control agencies to inform of any stray animals.
- Feed, water, and care for all animals in intake according to CAHS policy.
- Maintain proper identification on all animals in the building.
- Enter animal histories.
- Respond to phone calls, voicemails, and e-mails in a timely manner
- Perform daily cash out.
- Ensure the intake department is clean and locked up at the end of the night, including the drug box.
- Comply with CAHS policies and procedures.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
- Fill in as needed in other areas of the shelter.
