Position - CREC Resource Group AARC Faculty Mentor - Per Diem
Mentor
AARC Mentors are the primary liaison between AARC leadership, the candidate, the on-site placement supervisor, and program components to help the candidate prepare their portfolio for commencement. The AARC Mentor coordinates all areas related to fieldwork and clinical placement. The mentor may also be assigned to score/assess assignments throughout the candidate’s program.
Requirements
Special education certification or related certification
Advanced graduate degree in education
At least 10 years of experience as a special education teacher and/or special education leader or related certification
Familiarity with professional standards: Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), Common Core of Teaching, Connecticut (CCT), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
One letter of recommendation from a supervisor attesting to your ability to mentor, support, and provide feedback to others
Primary Expectations
Consult with the on-site partner regarding candidate needs and progress
Constructively criticize units, lesson plans, clinical logs and observations, and candidate performance and provide feedback including fieldwork observations promptly as determined by program timelines/due dates
Review, discuss, and provide constructive feedback on competency progress and portfolio submissions
Review and discuss self-evaluations by the candidates
Promptly respond to candidate consultation requests either in-person, virtually, or via phone call
Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date records for assigned candidates
Attend 10 faculty meetings over the course of the year, at 1.5 hours per month
Attend 10 monthly in-person and/or virtual classes for cohort meeting/check-in and keep a running agenda for each meeting
Participate in Commencement meetings with assigned candidates
Promptly communicate with the AARC Director or leadership regarding concerns with candidates or placements that the AARC Mentor is not able to resolve
Supervised by: Lead Education Specialist
