Job Summary
A Peer Recovery Coach in the Emergency Department provides immediate, compassionate support to individuals in substance use crises. Using your lived experience, you'll help patients navigate treatment options and connect to recovery resources. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you'll ensure a smooth transition from emergency care to ongoing support, improving patient outcomes and fostering long-term recovery.
Description of responsibilities:
- Provide direct services to individuals as assigned.
- Ensures assigned paperwork is completed and maintained in accordance with funding source standards and CARE of SEM policy and procedures.
- Demonstrates in practice there are multiple pathways to recovery.
- Facilitate timely referral and placements from hospital to treatment/recovery support providers.
- Documents information for established metrics and outcomes as required.
- Ability to work some weekends and holidays
Work Environment:
This role operates primarily within the emergency department of a hospital, where you will interact with patients in crisis and work alongside medical professionals. Flexibility and adaptability are essential as the nature of emergency care can be dynamic and fast-paced.
Required experience:
- Must be in long term recovery from a substance use disorder for at least four consecutive years.
- One year of peer coaching or related experience preferred.
Required Qualifications:
- High school Diploma or GED
- Valid Michigan Driver's License
- Must have or be willing to obtain certification as a Peer Recovery Coach and Peer Recovery Mentor within a specified timeframe.
