Payroll & Benefits Specialist (Temp-Hire)

Location: West Hollywood, CA
Salary: $25-32/hr (DOE)
Our client, a popular fashion retailer, is seeking a well-rounded Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join their HR/People and Culture team for their North American branches.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process payroll and conduct payroll audits for office, distribution center, and store locations across the U.S. and Canada.
- Review and approve funding processes for net payroll, payroll taxes, and deductions to ensure accurate timekeeping and data entry.
- Manage payroll-related accounting functions, including general ledger interface, account reconciliations, and preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports.
- Establish and maintain year-end and year-begin payroll procedures in compliance with current regulations.
- Support employees with benefits claims, plan changes, and life status updates.
- Audit HRIS data to ensure proper setup and administration of benefits, pay rates, hours, accruals, and organizational structure.
- Oversee audits and tax filings, including quarterly submissions and year-end processes such as W-2s and W-2c corrections.
- Prepare payroll forecasts and reports; support Finance in monthly G/L closings, financial statement preparation, and special projects.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, and coordinate tax documentation with payroll providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of experience leading payroll operations in a multi-state environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll, benefits administration, and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Self-starter and team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Customer service-focused and able to engage effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Dayforce/Ceridian platform preferred.
