We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Accounting Manager to join our finance team. This is a key position within the Finance organization that will report directly to the Associate Director of Accounting. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on manager and leader in the day-to-day activities of the accounting department. The Accounting Manager will lead various accounting processes and activities including clinical trial and contract manufacturing accruals, month-end close, review of journal entries, adherence to internal controls, and involvement in special projects when appropriate.
This position will be based in our Berkeley, California headquarters, with flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement for Bay Area-based candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in driving the financial statement close process (monthly / quarterly / annual) enabling accurate and timely accounting under US GAAP
- Prepare, Review, and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting work papers
- Manage the CMO and CRO expense month-end-close cycle, including reviewing relevant contracts, preparing and reviewing calculated contract accruals / prepayments, and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations
- Proactively interact and lead meetings with Clinical Operations and CMO / CRO vendors to gather and analyze relevant information and supporting documentation
- Support CRO and CMO financial-related issues / questions, including addressing invoice issues as needed
- Perform necessary close activities to enable robust financial records (e.g., accrual preparation, variance analysis, management reporting)
- Work closely with the Associate Director of Accounting to improve, automate, and document accounting processes
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including project accounting, prepaid, accruals, reconciliations, revenue recognition and billing, etc
- Enable successful operation of Equity Edge Online and coordinate with system administrators to ensure records are up to date
- Support preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and assist with disclosures as necessary
- Manage and resolve non-routine and non-standard accounting transactions as necessary
- Identify, optimize, and automate accounting processes driving efficient and streamlined close processes
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal control structure and ensure compliance with established controls
- Assist external auditors, tax consultants, and other service providers with PBC requests
- Ad hoc analysis and projects as needed
