Hi, I’m Nick, looking for a Summer 2025 Industrial Engineering Intern – Motor Technology Center.

I'm an operations expert with a background in manufacturing engineering, and have 30 years in the manufacturing industry, with a focus on automotive operations.

What Do We Do?

Business Unit: Motor Technology Center

We take material produced by Carpenter and produce a sellable product with demanding customer specifications for a very specific market.

Ongoing Projects

We are growing our corner of the business, using data analytics and real-time experience to drive process improvement and growth.  As a smaller team, each of us wears many hats, and we task as appropriate to ensure that our weekly and monthly goals are being met with a focus on Safety and Quality.

Your Role as an Intern

You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks:

  • Tooling and fixture design; technology-driven data analysis in the understanding of process dynamics; process and operation layout; cycle time analysis; OEE analysis; value stream mapping; process improvement based on process metrics

What Do We Require?

You must be:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology
  • Ideal candidates will possess the following characteristics: Driven, Self-reliant, able to take initiative in uncertain circumstances
  • Candidates must have experience with SolidWorks, MS Office and there is a preference for individuals who are experienced working with their hands (even as a hobby).
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
  • Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter’s government contracts.

Pay Range

Hourly rates are based on: 1 – Program of study; 2 – Degree type (i.e., Bachelor’s); 3 – Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). The range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00 per hour.

Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible)

Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.
