Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking an Early Intervention Coordinator who will be coordinate recruitment, enrollment, and the delivery of services for children with special needs while in the Head Start/Early Head Start Program. Will incorporate Catholic Charities mission, vision, values, and philosophies into daily work and demonstrating a positive attitude
The work schedule is: Monday-Friday
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the development of an intervention service plan providing strategies for the recruitment and enrollment of children with diagnosed or suspected disabilities.
- Participates in Head Start outreach and recruitment activities.
- Maintains on-going communication with parents/caregivers, by informing them of the types and purposes of screenings, the results, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) progress.
- Ensures referrals are made for children to the local education agency and/or alternate assessment agency for evaluation and identification of the child’s disability.
- Obtains written diagnostic reports and/or confirmation by the professional(s) of the child’s disability and provides follow-up plans for assisting children.
- Coordinates with the mental health staff/consultant to help teachers identify children who show signs of problems such as serious depression, withdrawal, anxiety, or abuse.
- Monitors, documents and updates records on the progress of children.
- Participates in the budgeting process.
- Ensures IEP/IFSP goals are incorporated into the individual development plans.
- Coordinates, presents, and arranges for training for staff and parents/caregivers to develop skills to meet the needs of children.
- Provides guidance to maximize successful inclusion of care for children with disabilities and children experiencing social/emotional difficulties.
- Complies with federal, state and local guidelines and with the policies and procedures of the Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start and Catholic Charities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PROGRAM/POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Harford County Early Head Start:
- Conducts weekly home visits for a caseload of children and/or pregnant mothers focusing on child development, health, nutrition, mental health, healthy pregnancy and delivery.
- Creates a learning environment within the home that will nurture and support each child, mother or primary partner’s growth and development consistent with Head Start and Catholic Charities.
- Assists in organizing and conducting group socialization activities for home-based parents and children.
- Assists parents with transportation to program functions and to appointments.
- Links the child and the family into a health system if necessary and sets up preliminary screenings (physicals, immunizations and dental checkups) for each child entering the program.
- Integrates health and nutrition education into the curriculum and provides health education for parents and staff.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Mental Health, Special Education, Behavioral Health, or a related field.
- Three (3) years’ experience in childcare or early childhood education environment.

- Demonstrates accountability by working independently, requiring minimal direction or supervision while acting with discretion, tact, and professionalism.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position.
- Flexibility may be required to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps, poles, or other similar structures as required to perform job tasks.
- Remaining in a stationary position, which may involve standing or sitting for extended periods, as required to complete tasks or duties associated with the role.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or transitioning between different work sites, which may involve walking, standing, or traveling to various locations as required by the role.
- Engaging in communication with others to exchange information, which may involve speaking, listening, writing, or using electronic communication methods to ensure clear and effective understanding. This includes both verbal and non-verbal interactions with colleagues, clients, or external parties.
- Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, including tasks such as typing, data entry, or handling small objects. These repetitive activities may occur throughout the workday and require attention to ergonomics to ensure comfort and minimize strain.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and completeness of assigned work to ensure it meets quality standards and adheres to established guidelines.
- Hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction, sufficient to drive safely and effectively observe and communicate with others.
- Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede drivers’ ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
