What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Parish Social Ministry position at Catholic Charities of Long Island?

CCLI is currently looking for a Director of Parish Social Ministry to support our mission through parish-based partnerships within the Diocese of Rockville Centre. By joining our team, you will play a key role in strengthening the mission of parishes in their effort to provide services to their community.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide supervision and direction to Parish Social Ministry staff.
Promote ongoing spiritual formation and education of Parish Social Ministry Department staff, as well as parish staff and volunteers aligning with Catholic Social Values. - Build professional relationships with parish leadership, including Pastors and Priests, Parish Social Ministry Coordinators, Diocesan, community and civic organization staff by meeting in person, or communicating via telephone, mail or email.
- Assist Pastors and Parish Social Ministry Coordinators in evaluating their programs and makes recommendations as appropriate
- Assess the needs within communities for Parish Social Ministry services; plans and develops programs/activities/trainings to meet those needs.
- Promote Parish involvement in the community by meeting with outside agencies, service representatives and others, discussing services and programs.
Oversee parish reporting of direct service statistics to Catholic Charities and publishes an annual report. - Coordinate parish involvement with Catholic Charities’ disaster response, as appropriate.
- Coordinate prayer and liturgical opportunities for the Agency and for Parish Social Ministry staff and volunteers.
- Collaborate with staff from the St. Vincent de Paul Diocesan Council, Diocesan offices and Catholic Charities related to parish services for people in need.
- Develop the Parish Social Ministry network, coordinates the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, public policy education/activities and other programs/activities.
Oversee the distribution and reports of funds for financial assistance to clients.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field with ministerial training through Diocesan programs, Catholic Charities and other ministry formation, required, Master’s Degree preferred. - Must be able to articulate the Church’s mission on earth as expressed by Catholic Doctrine, Social Teachings and Values.
- Must be a person of faith and have a deep appreciation for the dignity of the human person.
- Must be able to assess client needs and parish ability to effectively respond to those needs within defined boundaries.
- Must have knowledge of and know when/how to access community resources on behalf of clients.
- Prior managerial experience and experience working with parishes, ministry and Diocesan personnel.
Must be able to work flexible schedule (some evenings and weekends) and travel locally. - Bilingual (Spanish) helpful.
Salary : $72,000 - $82,000
